Pegasus 42, 1080v15 or Supernova Rise 3: how to compare the daily-trainer updates

A daily trainer does most of the ordinary work. With the Pegasus 42, 1080v15 and Supernova Rise 3, we would start by asking which shoe belongs in your actual week, and what your current pair already gets right.

Open three product tabs to choose a running shoe and you can find yourself halfway into a materials course: ReactX, Infinion, Dreamstrike+. Meanwhile, the shopping decision has barely moved. The original brief was simpler: find a pair for the running that fills an ordinary week.

The Pegasus 42, 1080v15 and Supernova Rise 3 join that discussion with updated constructions. Each brand has a technology story. Our starting point would be the experience you want to keep or improve. Give that an honest description before asking a foam name to do the choosing.

Ask the pair by the door first

Your current shoe already gives you useful clues. Is there enough toe room? Does the heel stay secure? Does the upper press anywhere? A short list of specific likes and frustrations is a better brief than a general wish for “more performance”.

For a first pair, keep the exercise simple: decide what you can spend, take time with the fitting and notice pressure or unwanted movement. You need curiosity about the fit more than fluency in foam chemistry. Try the size in each model too. The goal is to accommodate your foot, rather than make the numbers on the labels match.

The changes worth looking at

Nike combines ReactX with full-length Air Zoom in the Pegasus 42 and describes a fit update from the 41. New Balance moves to Infinion for the 1080v15. adidas lists Dreamstrike+, a Primeweave upper and a Lighttraxion outsole for the Supernova Rise 3. Those are concrete construction changes to investigate when you try them.

The terms refer to different parts of the shoe. The midsole sits under your foot, the upper wraps it, and the outsole contacts the ground. On the Rise 3, Dreamstrike+, Primeweave and Lighttraxion name those three parts respectively. Knowing where a change sits helps you ask a better fitting question: are you looking for a different underfoot feel, more room or a different hold around the foot?

The Pegasus is worth a look if you are curious about that foam-and-air combination. The 1080v15 provides a particularly interesting comparison for someone familiar with the family who wants to understand the move to Infinion. For the Rise 3, we would consider the midsole, upper and outsole together. These are reasons to put a shoe on the fitting list, rather than conclusions about how it will feel on your feet.

Energy return describes how much of the energy put into a material or system comes back after deformation under a test. Measuring the response of compressed foam and evaluating a person running ask different questions. That is why we are reluctant to let the phrase settle the purchase. It is an appealing phrase, but three product pages are not a head-to-head study with a shared protocol and equivalent samples. A numerical ranking would need that common basis. It has not been established here.

The weights look decisive until you check the references

Nike states approximately 300 g for the men's Pegasus 42 in BR 42, with a US 10 reference on its American page. New Balance publishes 261 g for the men's 1080v15, and adidas gives 272 g for the men's Rise 3. The accessible pages for the latter two do not explicitly identify the weighing size.

It is tempting to subtract the figures and declare a winner. We would put the calculator down for a moment. Without the same size reference, that neat difference implies more precision than the evidence provides. A size selected in a shop URL may simply be the option being displayed, rather than the sample that was weighed. Keep the figures, but keep their references and that gap alongside them.

Drop is a useful question, rather than a score

The published drops are 10 mm for the Pegasus 42, 6 mm for the 1080v15 and 8 mm for the Rise 3. For the Rise 3 reference, adidas also lists 37 mm at the heel and 29 mm at the forefoot. Drop describes the difference between those heights.

We would use it to ask how a construction compares with what you are used to. It is less helpful as a quality ranking. If a model page also includes independent measurements, keep the sources separate: sample, protocol and measuring point can produce different figures. Combining one source’s heel with another’s forefoot creates a shoe that exists only in the spreadsheet.

Give price the same attention as fit

The Brazilian Pegasus 42 listing checked on 28/10/2026 shows BRL 1099.99, or BRL 1044.99 using Pix. The lime/blue men's 1080v15 listing shows BRL 1199.99 and store SKU 4100002. These dated Brazilian references do not establish international pricing or current stock.

Check the Rise 3 offer for the version you intend to buy before completing the comparison. Another colour or a women's version may have different terms. Add delivery, payment conditions and returns to the decision. If two suitable models both fit well, giving the final cost a substantial vote is entirely reasonable, even when the more expensive shoe has a technology name you like.

How we would approach the fitting

We would wear our usual running socks and repeat the same checks in each pair: room ahead of the toes, security through the midfoot and heel contact. If a running trial is available, pay attention to the transition and any specific discomfort. With the budget and role already clear, ask which pair you would actually want to reach for during the week.

That is our editorial approach. The sources below are product documentation; Darwin has not wear-tested these samples. This comparison makes no claim of injury prevention or pronation correction.

The Pegasus 42, 1080v15 and Supernova Rise 3 model pages keep the figures and sources attached to each shoe. If these offers exceed the budget you set, our Olympikus Corre guide offers a wider search while keeping use and fit at the centre of the decision.

A good reason should outlast the unboxing

Buying new shoes is enjoyable. Being able to explain why they suit you after the novelty settles is more satisfying still. Training records help keep that discussion attached to real life: what you planned, what happened and what you noticed. Answers about the topic

Frequently asked questions

Equipment & Technology

Which would you choose for a first running shoe?

We would start with fit and budget, trying the models that suit the intended use. If more than one fits well, final cost and returns deserve a meaningful part in the decision. Specifications help choose what to try; the fitting helps choose what to buy.

Can I compare 300 g, 261 g and 272 g directly?

Keep the references attached: the Pegasus 42 figure is BR 42/US 10, while the accessible 1080v15 and Rise 3 pages do not state the weighing size. The figures therefore cannot establish a precise difference between equivalent samples.

Should I look for the lowest drop?

We would look for a construction that makes sense for you. The 10 mm, 6 mm and 8 mm describe height differences, rather than quality scores. Consider fit and what you are accustomed to alongside the number.
